Who Cares What Google Thinks?
You should – that’s who! Today, more than ever, consumers turn to Google to help them make a decision on where to shop and what to buy. Properly utilizing tools such as the Google search engine, Google Reviews, Google My Business and Google Maps is critical to making sure your business is respected and referred when potential customers are looking for your products or services.
So what is Google really looking at when it comes to my business?
GOOGLE SEARCH RESULTS
In a nutshell, Google’s job is to provide searchers with the best possible results for their query. Part of this is ensuring that the user also has a good experience once they click on a website that Google has suggested. This means providing the visitor with a website that loads quickly, is easy to navigate, and provides authoritative information on the subject matter being searched.
In order to find the best possible site to present to the searcher, Google will evaluate things like:
- Website load speed
- Design and layout of the site’s content
- Readability and authoritativeness of the content
- Balance of keywords, images, and functionality
- The website’s overall user behavior/experience on the site
- Site security for the user
This is why a website needs to be more than just beautiful. It needs to be built to comply with Google’s requirements or best practices (which of course they change on a regular basis keeping us all on our toes!). Sites that meet the mark will rank higher than those that don’t because they are deemed to provide the searcher with the best possible experience.
GOOGLE REVIEWS
It seems that there are reviews for everything these days. Movies, restaurants, doctors, products, service providers…the list goes on and on. Consumers rely on these reviews to help decide if the company or product will give them what they need. Google is the world’s largest collector of consumer reviews. As a business owner, it is important that you have positive reviews on Google. These reviews/star ratings will show up on a Google search engine results, the Google My Business listing and Google Map listing. The more positive reviews you have, the stronger your business listing will look in comparison to competitors with fewer reviews.
