March came in like a lion all right… but in the SEO world, it’s not going to be leaving a lamb. Google’s March 2024 core update is bringing a seismic shift to the SEO industry. Despite Stellar web specialists (and all of our clients) being tired of hearing “due to a recent Google algorithm…”, we are bracing ourselves for the impact this new update will have on the world wide web. Widespread changes are coming, and make no mistake, this update is a BIG DEAL.
Google took no time in doling out penalties based on their new guidelines –even before SEO experts were notified of what those guidelines were. Imagine waking up to find your website gone from Google’s search results. That’s exactly what happened to many websites after the March 2024 update rolled out. In its March 5 announcement, Google emphasized its goal of reducing unhelpful, irrelevant, unoriginal content from search results.
This drive to cleanup the web promises to remove up to 40% of low-quality websites that provide useless information and/or a poor user experience including pages that may have been created just to match specific search queries. Websites found violating Google’s new guidelines or employing questionable SEO tactics will not only be penalized but completely removed both from search results and the index itself. In the days following the announcement, the SEO world was turned upside down.
We expect this roll out to continue through March and April with the final guidelines being released at the end of April – way to keep us on our toes Google. We’re working hard to combat any penalties that may have incurred and ensure all of our clients are in a favorable position when it comes to new stipulations.
