DO I NEED TO REDESIGN MY WEBSITE?
If you are asking yourself this question, most likely the answer is YES! But if you are still wondering, here are some signs your website might need a facelift!
1) Is your site responsive and mobile-friendly?
A responsive site has the ability to adapt to whatever size screen your audience is viewing your site on. With mobile views accounting for HALF of all web traffic worldwide, you could be losing a lot of viewers if your site doesn’t look or function properly on a tablet or smartphone. A mobile standalone site isn’t enough anymore with all the varying phone sizes (and talk about a pain to update!). Using a responsive theme allows your site to adapt to any size screen. Not only is it a bonus for users, but Google also considers the ease of use in its algorithm.
2) How long does your site take to load?
If your site was built years ago, it might be utilizing outdated coding, plugins, and other large files that can bog down your page speed. This not only hurts the user experience but also won’t help your Google algorithm. In the website world, speed is everything and if yours isn’t fast, it’s time for an upgrade. Check your speed here!
3) If your website is image heavy, are they out of date?
When looking at old pictures, you can probably easily tell when it was taken. The same can be true for website imagery. Outdated imagery could make your site look older than it is. Keeping your visuals and content updated can make a huge difference in your site. If you are still using images from the early 2000s, it’s time for a change.
4) Is your content relevant?
Sometimes we fail to actually READ our sites for long periods of time. This could result in outdated information or worse, the wrong information. This could lead to confusion for your users and lost revenue. Keeping your content updated is a must, but if you can’t remember the last time you made an edit, it’s time to take a look.
5) Does the navigation still make sense?
Take a moment to think about the most important pages on your site. Now try getting there from the home page. Was it easy to find? Did you get to the right page on the first try? Did you know exactly what to click on? If you answered no to any of these questions, you need a website remodel. Being able to easily navigate is probably one of the most important functions of your website. Frustrated users could result in lost revenue and unneeded irritation.
6) Is your site easy to update?
Does it take your web guru forever to make even the smallest changes? This could not only be a costly mistake but also effect the timeliness of your site. New sites are easier for end users to update and cost less to maintain. You might be paying more for the initial set up, but the overall maintenance savings will more than make up for it.
7) Are you at risk of getting hacked?
If your site hasn’t been updated in the last 3-5 years, you probably don’t have the latest software, plugins or databases. This is a huge security risk and increases your site’s risk of being hacked. Once your website has been compromised, it may cost a significant amount of money to restore, if that’s even possible. This alone is reason enough to get your site – a new look both on the front and back end!
It is easy to put off a new website, but the costs of waiting usually end up more than just pulling the trigger.
